Happy New Year to All!

As we say goodbye to 2017, I hope that it has been a prosperous year for all of you and your businesses. The holiday season is almost behind us for another year. I hope too, that you have enjoyed the extra time with family and friends. We truly have a lot to be thankful for.

I am honored to be serving as the Ontario Area Chamber of Commerce Board Chair for 2018. Many of you know me, but unfortunately, I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting some of you. Therefore, I feel obligated to introduce myself.

After several years working for the Forest Service in Southern Oregon, I started my time in business as a manager for a pizza restaurant chain. Through my 15 years there, I spent time in Southern Oregon and in Central Washington. In 2003, my son and I moved to Payette and decided to call this community our home. That same year, I took a chance on a new path and began publishing  Tidbits of Lower Treasure Valley. That has been a rewarding and sometimes challenging adventure, but I have met so many wonderful people along the way. With the help of my son Taylor, my dad Larry, my mom Charlotte and several other people along the way, I continue to enjoy helping others market and grow their businesses. In 2012, I expanded my business and Tidbits of Boise was born. That brief summary takes me to the present, where I publish a Tidbits paper in the Ontario area and a separate paper for the Boise area.

Over the years, I have been a member of four different Chambers of Commerce in four different communities. All have been a great resource, but none has been as valuable to me and my business as the Ontario Area Chamber of Commerce has. I attribute this difference to several factors. First of all, as the face of the chamber, the office staff always strives to provide the best service to our community, our visitors and to our members. Secondly, our board members take their roles very seriously and seem to never stop giving of their time and expertise. The last thing I’ll mention, is that I have put more into this Chamber of Commerce than I have with others in the past. I am a firm believer that you get out of your Chamber what you put into it. I encourage everyone to take advantage of the networking opportunities that our chamber offers us to build relationships with other members. As we all know, we’re all in the business of relationships!

In closing, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Debbie Blackaby for her leadership role and hard work as our Board Chair for 2017. Her many years of dedicated service to the Ontario Area Chamber of Commerce and to our community has been much appreciated. Those that know Debbie appreciate her and know that there is no sign that she’ll stop giving to our community anytime soon. I will strive to reach for the bar that she has set. I look forward to seeing you at the Annual Banquet on January 12th. As we enter a new year, my challenge for myself and to all of you, is to have a wonderful 2018!
